The current guidelines by the UK government stipulate that healthcare providers can recruit health and care workers from overseas subject to meeting the necessary conditions. Below are the main items for internationally qualified nurses and care workers.
Nurses
Fully qualified and registered nurse/midwife in your home country
Ready to write the respective UK board exams in order to register in the UK as a nurse or midwife on arrival in the UK.
Complete and pass Nursing Placement Tests
If required, pass the English tests. For IELTS, have 7.0 overall score with 7.0 in reading, listening and speaking and 6.5 in writing
Visa Requirements
Get an eligible job placement
Get a certificate of sponsorship from a UK employer
Be paid a minimum salary for your role as required for the sponsorship visa
Take and pass the TB and any other necessary health tests
Proof you have the minimum funds required by the UK Home Office for your visa (if needed)
Have a valid passport and pay the required visa fees
Care Workers
A minimum of Secondary School Certificate (GCE, Ordinary Level Certificate) or equivalent
Be over 18 years old
Experience working in health care
Complete and pass the Care Workers Placement tests
If required, pass the English tests. For IELTS, have 5.0 overall score with 5.0 in reading, listening, speaking, and writing
